Friday was not only mostly sunny and relatively hot for this time of year, but there was even a touch of humidity giving it a mid-summer feel. By mid-afternoon the wind had calmed and the lake water was reflecting the trees that are finally starting to show some color. Saturday is supposed to start off sunny once again followed by increasing clouds leading up to 2 days of rain predicted to start Saturday night. This was certainly a week of gorgeous fall weather.
The leaves are starting to turn a little more with some touches of red and yellow, but we are still a week or so away from peak color time. Best guess is weekend of October 5th.
For anyone headed to town for fuel, M&M Esso is undergoing renovations and both their gasoline and diesel fuel islands and pumps are gone. It looks like propane sales are still open.
Not much happening with the fall draw down so far. The log is still in the dam. The lake is about 4 inches lower than it was a year ago and has been going down at a consistent rate since roughly July 1. Not sure what is up there. Suspect it is leakage at the dam, and not really a plan. CVCA says they monitor the lake level, but their graphs do not match mine, and I know that the data posted here is accurate each day.
The marina store is closed on weekdays. It is open Friday afternoons, Saturdays and Sundays through Thanksgiving. Still have a good selection of soft drinks, ice cream treats, ice, and of course, fuel.
We have sourced half a skid of plumbing anti-freeze again this fall. It is the better grade that is good to -50C. Available in the marina store, it is priced competitively at $5.30 per gallon.
The Bancroft Studio tour runs this weekend, September 21-22 and continues on the weekend of September 28-29. Always a fun time to visit local studios and enjoy the fall colors while doing so. While on the subject, the Apsley studio tour is also this weekend, the 21st and 22nd.
We will be back at the Toronto Snowmobile and Powersports show in late October. It is at the International Center near the airport the weekend of October 25-27. The Hastings County tourism department will be there too this year.
The Tall Pines Rally is November 22 and 23. There was a major announcement Friday that the final stage of the race is moving from just south of Bancroft to Hastings Highlands on two new sections of road. Spectator information will be updated shortly.
Surprisingly, 460 Limerick Lake North Shore is still on the market. Price is around $270. Very nice water access cottage in a good location.
